Running event: Berenloop 2020

Events, Sport

Description
De Berenloop has grown over the years into one of the largest athletic events in the Northern Netherlands.
This is not only because of the beautiful course that runs through the beautiful and varied nature of Terschelling,
but also because of the fantastic atmosphere that prevails during the Berenloopweekend on the island.

In 2019 the Berenloop is due for its 23 thrd edition on Sunday 3 November. The first edition took place on October 26, 1997,
as a sporting conclusion to the theme year 400 years Willem Barentsz. Willem Barentsz, famous seafarer and from
Terschelling, tried to sail to Asia in 1596 via the north. It became a monster trip with many hardships and a forced wintering
between the ice floes on Nova Zembla. By hunting boars, the crew had enough food to survive the winter. And so the
marathon came to its name: the Bear Run. Half the distance from the Berenloop offers the runners a nice and varied route.
Starting in West, the route leads along the Hoofdweg to the villages of Midsland and Formerum. Then it goes back through
the woods, dunes and across the beach back to West. Along the way there is a lot of atmosphere and music and the
runners are fully encouraged.
Note: there is no post-registration.
